Sam and Nick live in Bozeman, Montana. It’s their senior year in high school, they are applying to Colleges, playing football, and having a need to discover what sex is all about. The action starts when Sam and Nick celebrate Nick’s birthday. They find a hidden hot springs, and on a partially submerged ledge, they find eight strange geodes.   These geodes are something their parents have been searching for - for eons. 
Bozeman, Montana seems to be a sleepy little college town, a gateway to Yellowstone National Park, as well as the theoretical site for First Contact with the Vulcans (2058 AD), and finally a Geological Horror waiting to happen.  Bozeman sits upon a large magma bubble just a few miles below the surface of the earth. When the first bubble burst ,70 million years ago, it created a Nuclear winter that killed off most organisms over twenty kilos.  That magma plume is ready to burst again - any day now.  Not a place you might wish to grow up in, if you watched too many disaster movies.
